NON-EXTRACTION TREATMENT
Dr Shimanto specialises in non-extraction treatment where possible. Extraction are best avoided when other suitable treatment options can be used to correct a bite.
Extractions used to be a popular option when undergoing orthodontic treatment, yet there are many orthodontic options now available that in many cases can eliminate the need for extractions.
Having an orthodontic consultation at a young age can prevent the need of extraction later in life. For example, an expander plate can be used to widen the top jaw to allow more room; meaning as a result, teeth do not have to be extracted.
Designing custom braces with Elemetrix
There are many new types of braces available that cater for a crowded mouth. At Norwest Orthodontics we use a program called Elemetrix which allows for customized bracket placement and comfortable appliance fitting for each individual.Elemetrix works well in combination with Damon braces, pulling together the advantages of both systems. Using Damon braces helps to avoid extraction where possible and Dr. Shimanto can advise whether the Damon System is suitable for you.
